My soccer coach, Ron Roybal, has been a huge inspiration in my life. He is the best coach anybody would want. He never gets frustrated, even if nobody on the whole team can get the move right. He is always as happy as a penguin sliding on its belly! I wouldn’t have the skill level I have now if it weren’t for his crazy, strict, laid-back personality!
First, Ron always believes in me even if I am having a bad day. If I say I can’t do it, he immediately retaliates and says, “Yes, you can!” If I am having trouble with a move he will work with me separately and say, “You can do it, I believe in you”. He is always positive with players and is never mad (even when the last place team scores on us)! He makes me work as hard as a bee collecting pollen!
Next, my magnificent African American coach makes me strive to be the best. He gives me more challenging moves to practice and perfect. He doesn’t let me give up or slow down. When we are running as a team it is always a full sprint or we do push ups and sit ups. Ron makes us work as hard as we can; it’s sometimes like we are farmers herding cows.
Third, Ron doesn’t let me give up. If I can’t do a move he doesn’t let me leave until I perfect it. If he did let me give up on something that is hard I would be a couch potato. I am glad he is like that because it makes me a marvelous soccer player. It will also help me achieve my dream of being on the woman’s Olympic team.
Fourth, we are not allowed to complain at soccer. If we do complain he says, “If you have enough energy to complain, you have more than enough energy to run.” It is because of Ron’s encouragement that we are such a good team. I think everybody on my team is extremely grateful that he is the coach. Especially my mom and dad!
Finally, all of these things make Ron the biggest inspiration in my life. If I didn’t have Ron as a coach our team wouldn’t have got second place in two out of three pre-season tournaments. We also wouldn’t have finished second place in our bracket if it weren’t for him. I am glad I have a coach like Ron because he is always positive, up beat, and happy! Ron is the most amazing coach in the world; so amazing I can’t even explain it in words! Thank you for everything Ron!
